Social Services
"Pulling Down Strong Holds and Building Up Relationships" (2 Co. 10:3-8)
In order to deal with the total man, we need a Social Service arm of the church. We cannot separate the soul from the body and claim to be concerned about the soul's salvation and ignore the social conditions. We must minister to the whole man.
We should be able to assist those in distress in the hour of sickness, death, or emergency needs.
In providing emergency aid for the needy also to put them in contact with other agencies for continuing needs, sometimes acting as a go-between. Many people have difficulty dealing with public agencies and could use the help.
Because of the many social and political issues that effect our lives, the church needs to be kept abreast of the issues that necessitate some social action by the church membership. In conjunction with all the above, there are other things that the church can do to meet the needs of the people. There should be awareness and a flexibility to adjust to new situations as they arise, not compromising our faith. The following are ideas:
